A mailbox became the first casualty when Steven Chase Liebler's 2020 Ford SUV veered off Old Cherokee Road before the deadly overcorrection that would claim his life. The 36-year-old was driving eastbound in the 1200 block when his vehicle left the right side of the roadway and struck the mailbox around 10:57 PM on September 6, 2025

a seatbelt at the time of the crash, which likely contributed to the fatal outcome. Liebler was the sole occupant of his vehicle, and witnesses or investigators later confirmed that he had succumbed at the scene.

The force of the collision was significant enough to cause catastrophic damage to both vehicles involved, underscoring the severity of the crash.

The driver of the Infiniti, also alone in their vehicle, managed to survive the collision with only minor injuries. Emergency responders arrived promptly, providing medical assistance and transporting the Infiniti driver to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Their injuries, while painful, were not life-threatening, and they are expected to recover fully. The crash site was secured by authorities, and Old Cherokee Road was temporarily closed to allow for a thorough investigation and cleanup.

Coroner Margaret Fisher has positively identified Steven Chase Liebler as the victim of the crash. Her confirmation helps bring clarity to the tragic event, but investigators are still working to determine what initially caused Liebler’s vehicle to drift off the roadway.

They are examining factors such as possible mechanical failure, road conditions, driver impairment, or medical issues that could have contributed to the loss of control. Surveillance footage, witness statements, and vehicle data recorders are all being reviewed to piece together the sequence of events.

This tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and the potentially devastating consequences of even minor distractions or health issues while driving.

As the investigation continues, authorities urge motorists to remain vigilant and cautious, especially during nighttime driving conditions. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Steven Chase Liebler’s loved ones during this difficult time.

His loss is deeply felt by his family, friends, and community, and his memory will be honored as authorities seek to understand and prevent such tragedies in the future.
