The gas tank exploded in flames as 23-year-old Ashton Meyer's motorcycle skidded beneath a turning vehicle at 71st Street and Canton Avenue, his body thrown from the bike after a desperate attempt to avoid collision failed

The devastating incident unfolded on a busy Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of 71st Street and Canton Avenue in south Tulsa. Witnesses recounted that 23-year-old Ashton Meyer was riding his motorcycle in a reckless and daring manner just moments before the crash.

Known among friends and locals for his love of adrenaline and thrill-seeking, Meyer had been weaving through traffic, performing wheelies, and accelerating at high speeds along the bustling roadway.

His bold riding style drew both admiration and concern from those nearby, who watched as he pushed the limits of his motorcycle in the bright afternoon sun.

However, the scene took a tragic turn when Meyer attempted to navigate a turn at the intersection. According to police reports, around 4:50 p.m., Meyer’s motorcycle was maneuvering through traffic when a vehicle ahead began to turn left in front of him.

In a desperate bid to avoid a collision, Meyer laid his motorcycle on its side, hoping to slide past the turning vehicle. Despite this quick reaction, the motorcycle collided with the turning car, resulting in a catastrophic rupture of the fuel tank.

The impact was immediate and catastrophic. Witnesses describe a sudden explosion of flames engulfing the motorcycle, which then skidded beneath the turning vehicle, igniting an inferno that lit up the surrounding area.

The intensity of the blaze was horrifying to see, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky as the flames consumed the motorcycle and its rider. Spectators and nearby drivers looked on in shock and horror as the scene unfolded rapidly.

The flames grew higher, and the sound of the explosion echoed through the neighborhood, marking a tragic end to Meyer’s reckless ride.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly, racing to the scene to provide aid. They managed to pull Meyer from beneath the wreckage of another car, where he was trapped in the fiery inferno. Paramedics worked quickly to stabilize him and rush him to the nearest hospital.

Despite their efforts and the advanced medical care provided, doctors were unable to save Meyer. His injuries were too severe, and he succumbed to his wounds shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The drivers involved in the incident remained at the scene and cooperated fully with authorities. Fortunately, they did not sustain any serious injuries, though they were understandably shaken by the event.

The community mourns the loss of Meyer, whose life was cut tragically short in a reckless but tragic accident. His family and friends are now grappling with grief, as they remember him and the young man he was.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of risky riding and the importance of road safety. Our hearts go out to Meyer's loved ones during this profoundly difficult time, and the community hopes that such a tragedy prompts reflection and renewed caution among all drivers and riders.
