Among those injured was Jenny Bushie, a resilient woman who had always been a pillar of strength for her family. Jenny was the mother of Tyrone Simard, a 26-year-old man who was the prime suspect in the series of attacks.
Tragically, Jenny was also the mother of Marina Free Simard, her 18-year-old daughter, whose life was cut short in the chaos. Marina’s death marked the most devastating blow in this tragic sequence, leaving her family and community devastated and mourning.
Police quickly responded to the scene, but the chaos was far from over. Reports indicated that Tyrone Simard fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, a desperate attempt to escape justice.
However, his flight was tragically short-lived. During a high-speed chase, Tyrone collided head-on with an RCMP cruiser responding to the emergency. The crash was fatal; Tyrone died at the scene, his escape attempt ending in tragedy.
