Three detectives—Sgt. Cody Becker, Isaiah Emenheiser, and Mark Baker—were gunned down in a sudden ambush while serving a warrant at a York County farm on September 17, 2025. Officers had returned to the North Codorus Township property after reports that 24-year-old Matthew James Ruth, the ex-boyfriend of a woman living there, had stalked the home with an AR-15 rifle.

In the quiet dawn of September 17, 2025, a tragedy unfolded on a York County farm—a day etched painfully into the hearts of many.

Three brave detectives—Sgt. Cody Becker, Isaiah Emenheiser, and Mark Baker—went forth with duty in their hearts, unaware of the deadly ambush awaiting them.

Their mission was clear: to serve a warrant, to uphold justice, to protect the innocent. But the shadows of violence lurked unseen, waiting to strike.

Earlier that day, reports had swirled like dark clouds over North Codorus Township. Matthew James Ruth, a 24-year-old man with a troubled past, had stalked the home of a woman he once loved—an ex-boyfriend driven by pain, anger, perhaps desperation.

Armed with an AR-15 rifle, Ruth had taken to the cornfields surrounding the property, camouflaged amid the tall stalks, hiding in the very landscape that had once nurtured crops, now turned into a deadly trap.

When the officers arrived, the house was unlocked—an open invitation to danger.

As they entered, the air was tense with anticipation, yet nothing could have prepared them for the chaos that erupted.

Ruth, concealed in the thick rows of corn, emerged suddenly, his camouflage blending with the green and gold. Without warning
