The woman, who had briefly dated Matthew James Ruth, said he had never been to her home before. Police charged Ruth, 24, with stalking and trespassing after the incident on Tuesday.

Her heart quickened with fear, the reality sinking in that someone had invaded her personal space, watching her without consent or invitation.

Later, authorities revealed that a trail camera had captured the man’s image, showing him carrying what appeared to be a rifle slung across his chest. The image confirmed her worst fears: someone had been monitoring her, possibly with malicious intent. 

The woman disclosed that she had briefly dated Matthew James Ruth, 24 years old, but she emphasized that he had never been to her house before that night. Her account painted a clear picture—Ruth’s presence was unwelcome and suspicious, and her fears prompted her to alert law enforcement immediately.

Law enforcement responded swiftly, charging Ruth with serious crimes—stalking and trespassing—on the heels of the incident. These charges reflected the danger posed by his actions and underscored the urgency of protecting residents from potential threats. 

The next day, however, the situation escalated dramatically. Officers arrived at the same property to serve a warrant, presumably related to the ongoing investigation. What was meant to be a routine apprehension turned into a deadly confrontation.
